Using the Notes, Highlite and Dog-Ear Features

In RapidReader there are several Markup Tools tools that you can use to add information value to any document. You can access them in ParagraphView , TurboView you can pause and use the console controls. And even "on the fly" using the Keyboard.

Adding your own User Notes
go to the top of the page

You can create User-Notes to add comments for use in RapidReader, You can also save and export the notes as a text file to Copy-Paste into other documents such as reports. A User-Note must be "attached" to a particular word which you can select in the ParagraphView.

1)
In the ParagraphView Single-click on a word to select it
2) Click on the Note Tool on the toolbar
3) This will display the Note Pad Dialog Box
4) Write your comment in the Note Pad and Click Done a the bottom of the dialog box
5) This will place a Note Icon the note next to the word you selected.
  NOTE: You must SAVE the file as an R2D when you close RapidReader to retain any markup you've created,
 

 
 
The  User Note Marker
go to the top of the page

The User-Note Marker will show you where you've placed a note. The marker is identified with a number in the order with which you've created the note. From the marker you can access the User Note dialog to read the note, edit the note and move between notes. 

Please NOTE: The User-Note Marker number is the order in which you created the notes NOT the order in which they appear in the document.

To view a User-Note from the Marker
1)
In the ParagraphView Double-click on the Marker ( e.g. {N002} above)
2) This will display the Note Pad Dialog Box
3) You can read or edit your comment in the Note Pad then
4) Click Done at the bottom of the dialog box
5) This will return you to the ParagraphView and preserve any edits. 
 

NOTE: You must SAVE the file as an R2D when you close RapidReader to retain any markup you've created,

 

 
 
Adding Dog-Ears
go to the top of the page

Dog-Ears serve three purposes.
1) Place a mark to locate an item of interest for later review..
2) To use as a reference to view material in the original document such as tables, charts or pictures.
3) To use as a convenient way to quickly move from point of interest to point of interest within a document.
A Dog-Ear must be "attached" to a particular word which you can select in the ParagraphView.

Please NOTE: You are also able to add Dog-Ear Markers "on the fly" while in TurboView. To learn more please go to Using the Note and Dog-Ear features in TurboView.

1)
In the ParagraphView Single-click on a word to select it
2) Click on the Dog-Ear Icon on the toolbar
3) A Dog-Ear Marker will be placed next to the word you selected

The Dog-Ear Marker will show you where you've noted a topic of interest or a place to which you want to return.  The marker is identified with a number in the order with which you've created it. From the marker you can access the Dog-Ear Viewer to see a list of Dog-Ears and the first few words in the text immediately after the Dog-Ear Marker to provide you with context.

Please NOTE: The Dog-Ear Marker number is the order in which it was created the NOT the order in which it appears in the document.

To view a User-Note from the Marker
1)
In the ParagraphView Double-click on the Marker
2) This will display the Dog-Ear Viewer
4) Click on any Dog-Ear and it will take you to that place in the text. 
5) To start RapidReading from this Dog-Ear marker Double Click on the next word

Using the Highlite Feature
go to the top of the page

The Highlite Mode feature serves several purposes.
1) You can Highlite text for emphasis when using the ParagraphView
2) Highlited text will appear in TurboView in a Lime Green Font.
3) Highlites can be saved as a separate text file to Copy-Paste into other documents such as reports. 

Please NOTE: You are also able to access the Highliter while in TurboView by pressing the Spacebar to stop and clicking on the Highliter Icon on the Paragraph View toolbar..

 
 
The Highlite Text Icon
1)
In the ParagraphView Single-click on the Highliter Tool Icon. This will put you in Highlite Mode.
NOTE: You will see two changes (a) the information pane at the bottom of the ParagraphView will say "Highlite Mode" and (b) the cursor will change to a Highliter tool.
2) Click, and Hold down the mouse button and Drag from the first word you wish to Highlite to the end of the passage. 
3) Release the mouse. The text you Highlited will have a colored background
4) Single-click on the Highliter Tool Icon  again to return to the ParagraphView (Normal Mode)

NOTE: The Highlited text will be preserved until you close RapidReader or SAVE AS an R2D.
 

 
 
Quickly Navigate through documents using the Viewers 
go to the top of the page

On the MenuBar you will see an entry called Viewers. This Feature allows you not only to view your Notes, Dog-Ears and Highlites but also conveniently navigate through the document.
Open an appropriate viewer, Click on an entry and select "Go To" in the dialog box and you will be taken to the location of the item in the text.

To Navigate using the Viewers
1) Open  Menu >View
2) Select the appropriate Viewer--User-Note, Dog-Ear or Highlite
3) Single-click on an entry 
4)
Click Display to read the item  (you can Double-click on a Note entry to display)

OR
5) Click on "Go To" to take you to the location of that entry.

To begin RapidReading from that point please  see above
  Please NOTE: When you click on the RapidReader icon in a supported application, it will replace the text in RapidReader. All notes and markup will be gone unless you SAVE AS R2D.<
 

 
 
Saving your Notes and Highlites as Text Files
go to the top of the page

You can save the Notes and Highlite Markup you've created as a text file even without saving the original document as an R2d. All your Notes from this document will be concatenated into one text file in the order in which they were created. The same is true for highlites. This is useful if you want to paste these entries into another document.

NOTE: if you close RapidReader without saving the markup, it will be lost.

 
 
  To Save Notes and Highlites
1)
Go to File/"Save User Notes" OR "Save Highlites"
2) Navigate to the folder where you wish to save them.
3) If desired give the file a different name
4) Click Save
 

 
 
Save As a RapidReader Document .R2d
go to the top of the page

In order to retain your mark-up you must Save the document in the RapidReader file format. If you are saving the document for the first time you will see a "Save As" dialog box. You can then name and save to a folder you designate as a RapidReader file .R2d. After the document has been saved, clicking on the icon will update and save the document with any new markup you may have added.

There are two primary ways to save in the ParagraphView

 
 
The Save Icon on the Paragraph ToolBar
1)
Click on FILE / Save As on the MenuBar OR
2) Click on the Save Icon on the Paragraph ToolBar
3) If you haven't saved the document, you will see the Save As dialog box
4) Name the document and choose a destination folder
5) Click Save
6) If you are adding to a previously saved document, Click on the Save Icon and you will see a File Saved alert
 

NOTE: You must SAVE the file as an .R2d whenever you close RapidReader to retain any new markup you've created,
